Testing Paint Before Applying it is Vital For House Painting

The right type of paint is going to be required when working on a house painting project. It will help to test one’s existing paint before getting into a house painting project.

It is easy to figure out whether the paint on one’s wall is either latex or oil-based. A painter will need to scrub a part of a wall with a mixture of warm water and detergent. The area will then need to be dried off. After this is done the person will have to dip a cotton ball or other small cotton material into an alcohol solution. This cotton will then need to be rubbed along the wall.

It will be easy to see what type of paint is used at this point. The paint that is in question will be a latex paint if its does come off in the process. Another layer of latex paint will be required for the paint job. It will be best to stick with this paint and to not switch to something else.

A paint that does not come off through this test will be an oil paint. Another oil paint will have to be applied onto this area. A primer will need to be used first as well. It will help to avoid a latex paint on this surface. A latex paint could end up peeling.

The last type of test to use is a lead test. This is needed in the event that one’s home was built before 1977 and has not had a new paint job since then. A home test kit can be used to figure out how much lead, if any, is in one’s paint. It may be best to contact a professional in this case though. A reading on a lead paint testing kit may not always be accurate.
